GUERNICA (April 23-29)

During the Spanish Civil War, Guernica, a quiet village in the Basque Country of Northern Spain, was a bastion of anti-Franco resistance. On April 26, 1937, Axis forces, with Franco's knowledge and consent, obliterated the town, killing 1,654 civilians, mostly women and children. Host and Producer Candie Agree presents Octavio Vázquez's "Guernica" Piano Trio Number 1 of 2006, paired with Ecos de Oiz, a work by Valentín Zubiaurre, a Basque composer who lived some 100 years before one of modern history's most horrific events.
